PDR Wiki is a site for those involved in helping academic probation or suspension college students find success. This wiki is designed to be a repository for questions, insights, and best practices.

While the nature of wikis allows users to change existing text, please refrain from doing so. Feel free to add to the content or to suggest changes, however.

Student RetentionEdit

If the goal of our jobs as academic advisors is to help students achieve their own academic goals, perhaps the biggest challenge of involves finding the best ways to help students who are teetering on the edge of failure. Some do not understand the commitment necessary to be successful in college; some struggle to meet the demands of college completion because of conflicts within their personal lives; some are academically underprepared, and some have little motivation to be successful in college.

Whatever the reasons for this population's lack of success, we are given the responsibility of helping them get back on track. I know that I have really struggled to figure out how to help them, though. And judging by the discussions on the PDR Interest listserv, I think there are a lot of others who are feeling similarly.
